How to Choose the Right Ceramic Tiles for Every Room of Your Home

Selecting the right ceramic tiles can completely transform the look and feel of your home. Whether you are renovating your living room, upgrading your kitchen backsplash or designing a brand-new bathroom, the tile you choose needs to balance style, durability and maintenance.

1. Understand the Difference Between Ceramic and Vitrified Tiles

Ceramic tiles are made from clay that is fired at high temperatures and finished with a glaze. They are an excellent, budget-friendly choice for walls and low-traffic areas. Vitrified tiles, on the other hand, go through a denser manufacturing process that makes them less porous, stronger and ideal for heavy-traffic floors.

2. Match the Tile to Each Room

  • Living Room: Large-format ceramic tiles create a seamless, premium look.
  • Kitchen: Glossy or anti-slip ceramic tiles are easy to clean and resist stains.
  • Bathroom: Anti-skid matte tiles offer safety and a spa-like finish.
  • Bedroom: Warm wood-look tiles add comfort without the maintenance of real wood.

3. Choose the Right Size and Finish

Larger tiles mean fewer grout lines and a cleaner appearance. For a modern look choose 600x600 mm or 600x1200 mm formats. Glossy finishes reflect light and make rooms appear bigger, while matte and rustic finishes hide scratches and offer a natural texture.

4. Check Water Absorption and PEI Rating

For bathrooms and outdoor areas always select tiles with low water absorption. The PEI rating tells you how resistant the glaze is to wear - PEI 3 or above is recommended for residential floors.
